Upgrading a CPU to an I7 will definitely help, that is a lot of cameras and therefore a lot of traffic that it needs to process.
There is really no way to say what would be the best, since a lot of factors contribute to CPU load. Framerates, resolution, how often you are comparing frames for motion detection, memory speed, Motherboard front bus speed, network card, etc...
Literally everything that has anything to do with the throughput of the data that moves through the system will have an effect on the overall CPU usage and usability of the system. For example, if the memory is not fast enough to process the amount of frames in and out of ram without inducing wait states, the CPU will take a usage hit since it has to wait on the memory and retry things as the application asks for the data. Just an example, but you see what I mean.
For your setup I would definitely recommend an I7 on a MB with the fastest FSB you can reasonably get, fast RAM running in Dual-Buffered mode. An SSD (Solid State Drive) would also be a good idea."
Merci beaucoup !!
